Opening of the workshop at the Moscow Exhibition Centre

Piotr Lorens, Vice-President of ISOCARP’s Young Planning Professionals program, started the event with a presentation of the workshops in 2012 in Perm and Pushkin. Mr. Lorens drew attention to the great influence of Russian culture and to the mentality of these events as a whole.
Alexander Antonov, the chief architect of the project of the Center for Spatial Information and an expert on territorial planning with the Union of Architects of Russia, noted the symbolism of ENEA (the Moscow Exhibition Centre) as the venue for the workshop: “ENEA – a real mix of nations and cultures.”
Continuing the theme of multiculturalism, Paul Nefedov, author of The Official Guide to the Exhibition Center, demonstrated archival photographs showing the centre’s development over 30-60 years. Mr. Nefedov dove into the history, considering the example of classical Russian architecture, as well as to trace the development of the exhibition spaces of the Nizhny Novgorod Russia Exhibition of Economic Achievements in 1889 to the present day.
