2019 Annual National Planning Conference (ANPC) in China: “Vigorous City and Countryside, Beautiful Human Settlements”

The Annual National Planning Conference (ANPC) hosted by Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) is the most influential and popular event for regional, urban and rural planners across China, best known for its academic focuses, engaging contents and top-level attendees. Since 2001, ANPC has been held in Hangzhou (twice), Xiamen, Beijing, Xi’an, Guangzhou, Ha’erbin, Dalian, Tianjin, Chongqing, Nanjing, Kunming, Qingdao, Haikou, Guiyang, Shenyang and Dongguan.
As an important academic exchange summit, ANPC is recommended as a key national academic meeting by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). As an open and comprehensive platform, experts from the academia, public and private sectors, actively participate to share their state-of-the-art studies on issues including but not limited to regional, urban and rural planning, towns and mountainous planning, zoning, housing and community planning, economic, social and environmental development, urban design and urban regeneration, transport and infrastructure, historic and cultural heritage, public policy and administration, new technologies and smart cities researches and etc. ANPC’s first day is a general plenary session with invited speeches from prestigious scholars around the world. The second and third days are packed with various parallel sessions in forms of academic dialogues, special dialogues, thematic exhibitions and working sessions.
In 2019, The People’s Republic of China will celebrate its 70th birthday. For more than 40 years, planning has played an extremely important role during China’s remarkable urbanisation process, which has greatly promoted the development of this country as well as the world. This year, ANPC’s theme is Vigorous City and Countryside, Beautiful Human Settlements, aiming at exploring and discussing how to better serve building a socialist modernised powerful country in an all-round way, how to meet the people’s increasing yearnings for a better life and to create vigorous urban and rural human settlements through planning, how to better build an ecological civilization with coordinated and integrated urban and rural areas, how to give full play to the leading role of planning in urban and rural construction and development during the process of building a modernised national governance system and increasing national governance capacity, and how to build on scientific and theoretical research to elevate the planning discipline in order to better assume the responsibilities to make spatial plans in the new area.
