SUMMARY:18nth International Conference on Urban Health- ICUH
DESCRIPTION:18nth International Conference on Urban Health- ICUH\n24-27 October\, 2022 | Valencia Spain\nThe 18nth International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH) is an annual initiative of the International Society of Urban Health (ISUH).\nISOCARP supports this event as a Conference Partner. \nThere is a growing body of urban health research and evidence\, yet gaps exist in knowledge generation\, translation\, and application for urban design and health practice. In this context\, the International Conference on Urban Health serves as a key convergence point to advance and support the generation\, exchange\, and application of urban health programs and policies. Through the Conference and program activities\, the ISUH serves as a platform for interdisciplinary academic researchers and educators\, practitioners and policymakers from multiple sectors in government and the private sector. \nThe theme for ICUH 2022 is Growing Our Global Community. Driving Action. Ensuring Equity. During this year’s conference\, we aim to connect all global stakeholders working within the urban health realm to drive action and ensure equity across cities and regions. We will explore how urban health can connect with other urban and global agendas\, such as climate change\, planetary health and sustainable development. We will explore models for engagement and empowerment\, prioritizing and defining equity across communities\, how biodiversity and natural elements can play a role in healthy urban futures\, and ways to reduce climate impacts for all. \nConference Themes\n\nUrban Natural Environments & Ecosystem (nature and promotion of health in cities)\nUrban Health Pathways (generating evidence that sheds light on the drivers of urban health that are still emerging)\nTransforming Urban Environments for Health (turning evidence into practice: implementation science\, policy\, governance strategies\, interventions\, innovations\, partnerships and networks)\nMaking it Happen (Mechanisms for supporting health and wellbeing in urban environments) \nBuilding Equitable Cities for All (empowering vulnerable and excluded populations\, addressing health disparities\, informality\, environmental and health justice)\nEvidence and Practice from Valencia and Spain (local contributions on the above topics or new locally relevant topics) \n\nFinal Deadline for Abstract and Proposal Submissions\, May 31st\nFor more information and Submissions find the link here.

SUMMARY:Healthy City Design 2022
DESCRIPTION:Healthy City Design 2022\nThe Next Frontier: Valuing diversity\, inclusivity and opportunity\nOctober 10-11\, 2022\nLondon\, UK\nThe next frontier’ will see new amalgams of expertise and knowledge addressing the vital questions around inclusion and diversity in the professional disciplines in design\, technology\, urbanism and health. Business organisations will lean into the city as part of their ESG (environmental\, social and governance) commitments. Architects and engineers will plan for the complexity that comes with including a wider range of needs and desires. Public health experts will pilot a fresh approach\, and technology providers will seize the moment. \nFor our 2022 Congress\, we’re interested in receiving proposals for papers\, posters and workshops in the spheres of practice\, research and policy that capture key elements of this dynamic picture. We want to look at inclusive ideas and initiatives in relation to such topics as homes and neighbourhoods\, work and workplace\, public space and urban design\, climate and community\, transport and mobility\, and smart cities and healthcare services. \nPrevious editions of the Healthy City Design International Congress have looked at creating a shared culture of wellness\, reducing health inequalities\, building resilience in cities\, and dealing with the impact of Covid-19. In 2022\, we pull all of these themes together and ask: how can design for inclusion\, diversity and social equity support healthier lives in a thriving urban realm? \nFor additional information\, please visit the website.

SUMMARY:Cities 4.0 2022 “Local Action\, Global Achievement”
DESCRIPTION:Location: Royale Chulan\, Kuala Lumpur \nThe UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is an ambitious global effort to be delivered by 2030\, entailing overarching global action on inclusiveness\, socio-economic resiliency\, and environmental protection. All 17 cross-cutting SDGs act as urban targets for urban actors when driving action and investment in innovative urban development. Since cities house half of the world’s population and contribute to two-thirds of the worldwide GDPs\, our cities are essential in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. \nNot all cities will work at the same speed\, have similar priorities\, or even the same starting point. Hence\, localizing the SDGs at the local and regional city level becomes pivotal\, encouraging and leading city leaders to embrace the global goals. Given the scale\, complexity\, and interconnectedness of smart city services\, cities need integrated strategies\, project implementation\, and sound methods for monitoring and reporting to align to the specific goals. \nThe 5th edition of Cities 4.0\, with the overarching theme ‘Local Action\, Global Achievement\,’ aims to facilitate discussions and dialogues on strategies for developing a practical roadmap to localize the SDGs for local actions on project implementation and monitoring. The conference will further discuss strategies for building climate-smart cities\, from measuring urban greenhouse gas emissions to implementing urban vegetation and smart waste management. Various aspects of technological and capacity development in making the success of smart cities will also be discussed by the international experts over the two-day conference. \nFor more information\, please have a look at the website:  www.cities4pointzero.com

SUMMARY:United Nations MENA Climate Week 2022 Event
DESCRIPTION:United Nations MENA Climate Week 2022 Event (link)New and radical spatial planning for systemic change in citiesMarch 28\, 20221:00 – 2:00 PM CEST3:00 – 4:00 PM (Dubai Time)\nCities play a critical role in our multiple crises: they are leading sources of GHG emissions\, but also the places where different aspects of the climate crisis overlap and where strong responses are needed for a fair and just transition. It’s clear that the way cities are planned and managed needs to drastically change if we are serious about meeting ambitious but necessary targets for emission reduction and adaptation to a changing climate. \nAction is now finally being taken by many city leaders\, but is this approach enough to deliver the radical transformation our cities need to make good on our promises? \nThe spatial planning system is the main tool most countries have for managing urban environments: which moves are different countries in the MENA Region taking to ensure vital change to tackle the climate crisis? \nIn this participatory virtual event\, expert planners from different parts of the region will exchange ideas and explore priorities using online tools to engage directly with the audience. \nDiscover the event agenda here. \nZoom Link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83118818667 \nContact person: Martina Juvara | martinaj@urbansilenceltd.com

SUMMARY:Cyber Agora #6 Underground Urbanism
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, cities around the world have used these spaces to lay down service lines—for water\, sanitation\, electricity—or for parking and transport. However\, the multifaceted value of underground spaces is often overlooked in traditional planning processes—focussing on the horizontal and vertical expansion of urban areas above the surface. This neglect of underground spaces is linked to a limited understanding of the value of underground spaces and the importance of spatial planning to effectively utilise these spaces. \nThe purpose of the Cyber Agora is to expand urbanism to think beyond the “above ground”\, and amplify the future of cities\, which is impossible without integrating the subsurface into the urban fabric. Moreover\, this event aims to highlight the value of underground spaces in the development\, planning and management of a resilient and sustainable urban future\, and therein role of public policies and governance. \nThe idea to plan and manage the use of the underground has been around for a long time. The use of the subsurface has evolved below many modern cities. It has evolved to focus on the use of subsurface as a spatial relief valve—freeing up vital space on the surface for alternate use. In the foreseeable future\, planning the use of underground spaces for a sustainable\, resilient\, liveable and inclusive city will become inevitable—to avoid future chaos and limitations on city development. It will require cross-disciplinary integrated urban planning and government policies where public policies and urban planning acknowledge the existence of underground space and plan its use with the development of the surface. \nFor ITACUS and ISOCARP\, underground urbanism is a domain that not only needs to be addressed but offers ample opportunity for further development in the planning community. \nThe event is open to urban planners\, designers\, urban decision-makers\, engineers\, placemakers\, urban explorers. \nDiscover more

SUMMARY:Balkan Architectural Biennale 2021
DESCRIPTION:“GLOBAL VILLAGE: SHELTER FOR RESILIENT LIVING”\nDecember 8-10\, 2021\nBelgrade\, Serbia (due to Covid-19\, the conference will be held online for free) \nAbstract deadline is extended to September 30\, 2021.  \nWe are living in a Refugee World running away from ourselves. Constant movement is its main characteristic: We are nomads. The main question of the conference is: Can global village be the shelter for us? Is it a new paradigm for architecture and planning? \nNetworks of local and traditional patterns and forms of living are breaking down. It can be said that in this context\, “iconic nomads” are formed and mature as spokespersons of local cultures. They are bearers of collective and personal identity and as such participate in creating a global village\, incorporating elements of diversity and establishing new socio-cultural networks. The conference will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this paradigm at the architectural\, urban-morphological\, technological and planning level. \nThe thematic sessions of the conference are:\n1. Architecture of/for iconic nomads: patterns\, forms\, systems\n2. Organising and arranging the global village: development instruments and models\n3. Resilient ways of living in global risks (e.g. COVID)\n4. Modern technologies in risk management of territories\n5. Forms of movement and mobility management in the global village \nThis conference will host keynote speeches from ISOCARP Secretary General\, Frank D’hondt\, and honorary Board Member\, Elisabeth Belpaire. \nMore information here.

SUMMARY:Save the date - World Planning Day 2021
DESCRIPTION:World PLanning Day 2021\nStrengthening the Co-production Paradigm in Planning\n(Promoting Government and Citizen Partnerships) \nCo-production occurs when citizens participate actively in delivering and designing the services they receive. It has come increasingly onto the agenda of decision-makers\, as interest in citizen participation has more generally soared. Expectations are high\, and it is regarded as a possible solution to the public sector’s decreased legitimacy and dwindling resources by accessing more of society’s capacities. In addition\, it is seen as part of a more general drive to reinvigorate voluntary participation and strengthen social cohesion in an increasingly fragmented and individualized society. \nEngaging Citizens in Public Services offers a systematic and comprehensive theoretical and empirical examination of the co-production concept and its application in practice. Over the years\, the South African Planning and Institutional system has established very critical and essential instruments (Integrated Development Plan – IDP\, Spatial Development Framework – SDF) and legislation (Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act – SPLUMA (No. 16 of 2013) that requires a critical interface between the people for whom plans are being provided and the Planners who are responsible for design and implementation of the plans as well as the decision-makers who are responsible for funding and implementing these plans. However\, the downside of this issue is the poor state of implementation and follow-up on the essential requirements of these infrastructure and services Co-production processes utilizing the available instruments. Hence\, the 2021 World Planning Day explores the variegated methods available in reviewing\, testing\, and further considering the co-production paradigm in planning in the South African context. \nGiven this drive\, for a deeper understanding of Infrastructure co-production and the ways to re-enforce the process of implementation of the co-production paradigm in spatial planning\, eThekwini Municipality\, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)\, South African Council for Planners\, International\nSociety Of City And Regional Planners (ISOCARP)\, South African Local Government Association (SALGA)\, and the South African Cities Network(SACN) are hosting a symposium titled: Strengthening the Co-Production Paradigm in Planning\, as the Theme for the 2021 World Planning Day. This event will bring together various stakeholders in town planning\, researchers\, academics\, decision-makers and\, professional planners\, administration\, economists\, and people from the fields of political science\, public management\, service management\, voluntary sector studies\, Environmental activists\, and other vital stakeholders in the built environment. \nThis year World Planning Day will take place 8th and 9th of November 2021. It shall be a virtual symposium. Presenters across the Globe will be invited to address of symposium\, thus creating an international learning and sharing platform. Four breakaway rooms will be set up to allow focussed and thought-provoking discussion on the four subtitles\, which are as follows: \nRoom 1: understanding the institutional framework for co-production and its ability to deliver sustainable infrastructure\nRoom 2: planning and economic development: how true are we to co-production in our plan-making\nRoom 3: promoting the healthy cities: balancing community needs with planning and the environment\nRoom 4: building resilience cities (climate change\, disaster reduction and mitigation; and city adaptation measures) \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Urban Economy Forum 2021
DESCRIPTION:Third Urban Economy forum to be held as a virtual gathering on 4\, 5\, and 6th of October 2021 in Brampton on occasion of UN World Habitat Day and the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development. \n  \nThe annual Urban Economy Forum is the largest global gathering on building practical approaches for sustainable urban economies and resources. \nThe Urban Economy Forum (UEF)\, in collaboration with UN-Habitat\, and Co-hosted by the City of Brampton\, is organizing the third “Urban Economy Forum 2021” virtually on October 4\, 5\, & 6\, 2021 in Brampton\, Canada on occasion of the World Habitat Day and the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development. The Forum’s main theme will be “Housing and Urban Recovery” and the practical approaches needed to move toward more sustainable urban economies. UEF 2021 is delighted to have Dr. Eduardo Moreno\, Head of Knowledge and Innovation of UN-Habitat\, as the Honourary Chair. \nUEF’s mission is to work alongside local authorities and international organizations to promote and enhance the achievement of the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs)\, and in particular SDG11: sustainable cities and communities\, by developing and testing innovative ideas in urbanism. In identifying new and different ways of managing cities\, UEF aims to learn what works best and why\, and to share this knowledge and other practical approaches with cities and towns globally. \nUEF 2020\, last year’s Forum\, was a great success with more than 160 speakers from Canada and around the world from various disciplines including mayors\, city leaders\, government officials\, private sector\, NGO representatives and the general public. \nUEF 2021 will continue to bring together the expertise and knowledge from leading institutions and individuals to connect theory to policies and actions and demonstrate innovative solutions through case studies and best practices on sustainable housing and development. Specifically\, the Forum will highlight the interconnectedness between housing and homelessness and the economic\, social\, cultural and environmental dimensions of our cities and towns. It will also focus attention on the intersection between converging crises\, such as COVID-19\, climate and environmental emergencies and the housing crisis and begin the dialogue on how these elements are interrelated to urban economies around the world. \nCOVID-19 continues to create unprecedented challenges for cities and towns globally in the way we interact\, live\, play\, study and work. The structural problems associated to housing have been further impacted by COVID-19. The pandemic also presents a glimpse of the potentially irreparable consequences of the climate and environmental emergencies if we do not act now and in a decisive manner. UEF 2021 will emphasise the urgency for global action and the need to pursue the shared Global Agenda for Sustainable Development. \nThis year the Urban Economy Forum is honoured to host ministers\, mayors and high profile government and non-government individuals and organizations to contribute to the important conversation on housing and urban recovery together with the following sub-themes: \n\nHousing and urban economy: building forward better in a world with pandemics\nUrban economy and the global pandemic\nClimate change and urban economy\nInnovation\, governance and the urban economy – rethinking urban paradigms\nPublic participation and community empowerment for equitable economic growth\n\nThe 3rd Urban Economy Forum also recognizes the importance of towns and small cities in this conversation. \nWe welcome all urban leaders\, practitioners\, academics\, private sector\, civil society\, and the public who are committed to realizing a more sustainable urban economy to join us at UEF 2021. Please visit our website for more information on UEF 2021 and to Register for this exciting event. \nFollow us on social media at LinkedIn\, Twitter\, and Instagram.

SUMMARY:“Post-Pandemic Right to the City” international conference
DESCRIPTION:October 1-6\, 2021\nTirana\, Albania\nThis conference invites scholars\, students\, professionals and even activists in the domains of city making\, into a deliberative debate on the right to the city post-pandemic. In 2021\, the figures of the pandemic will only increase and perhaps reach a peak. But a post-pandemic mentality should be encouraged earlier rather than latter\, for people to engage into reflexion and forward-thinking on how to heal the weaknesses of the city as a human co-creation\, and spur its strengths for liveability and resilience. The ethical and morality grounds of decisions and behaviour in the post-pandemic city stand at the core of the discourse on how the right to the city may transform after a crisis. \nFor more information\, click here.

SUMMARY:Spa-ce.net Network Conference
DESCRIPTION:21st year of the 21st century – Western Balkans’ Challenge of Common Future\nOnline | Belgrade\, Serbia | September 21-22\, 2021\n Two decades into the 21st century\, the Western Balkans countries still face a challenge of building sustainable functional networks and cooperation among each other. The objective of stronger cooperation for better common future is rational but it is one asking for confidence\, common vision of joint competitiveness\, social cohesion\, and a proper mode of governance. This requires a productive debate not only in the political circles (for example\, the political idea of Little Schengen)\, but also in the broad and interdisciplinary scientific discourse. \nSpa-ce.net is an appropriate platform of planning science representatives from CESEE countries\, with a number of institutions from the so-called Western Balkans. The initial discussion at this platform should start with searching for a rational method\, i.e.\, paving the pathway to voluntary functional networking of the Western Balkans countries for their sustainable future. Also\, the contributions building upon other cases of cross-border cooperation in Europe prove helpful. \nThematic scope of the conference: \n\nA Pathway to Functional Networking\nWestern Balkans as a crossroad of various mobilities in the XXI century\nChallenges of transnational/transregional governance\nPost pandemic waking up\nMemory\, place and identity in transition\n\nAlongside representatives of the member institutions of the Spa-ce.net network and other interested researchers\, PhD candidates undertaking research on one of the named topics are also invited to submit papers. The authors should send a 500-words abstract\, indicating which of the five mentioned topics their paper most closely addresses. The authors attending the Conference will also be asked to prepare a manuscript to be submitted for publication to the Collection of papers – Faculty of Geography University of Belgrade/Demography (or Book of Proceedings). \nThe application documents must be sent by July 15\, 2021. Please send your application form by email to wb2121@gef.bg.ac.rs and indicate which thematic scope (1-5) it is fitting at best. The selection and notification of participants is expected by the beginning of August 2021. A fee (50€) will be collected by organizers directly at place as usual. \nFor more information\, click on the banner.

SUMMARY:Cities 4.0
DESCRIPTION:Reimagining City Transformation\nOnline | September 21-22\, 2021\nCities around the world are reimagining the future\, using the pandemic as an opportunity to come up with urban solutions that will make life better and more prepared for crisis. They are aspiring to create greener spaces in their urban areas\, improve connectivity\, reduce congestion\, focus on sustainability\, and be more adaptive and smarter with new technology and materials. \nAs people have been forced to keep inside\, out of schools and workplaces\, as well as away from one another\, new challenges have been presented. Life may not return to the way it once was. Cities will need to adapt to a new reality and there are no universal solutions. \nThe hosting of the fourth edition of Cities 4.0 will once again provide the governments\, municipalities\, urban planners\, developers\, urban futurists\, solution providers and innovators an interactive platform to converge and discuss the methods and best practices to re-imagine our fundamental relationship with the cities\, and the opportunities to work outside their normal methods. \nOrganised by Confexhub Sdn. Bhd. under the auspices of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT)\, the key themes of Cities 4.0 include the following: \n\nRethinking Urban Development in A Post Pandemic World\nHigh Density Development with Low Density Activities – The Way Forward\nEdge-Computing-Enabled Smart Cities: Reshape the City Experience\nFrom Smart Cities to Connected Communities\nHarnessing Technologies to Transform Disaster Readiness\nDevelopment Of Greener and Cleaner Cities\nNew Traffic Patterns and Healthy Mobility\nDecoding The Low-Touch Economy\nStrategies In Developing Secondary Cities into Smart City\n\nFor more information\, please have a look at the event brochure or the event website.

SUMMARY:SRIP Smart Cities 2021
DESCRIPTION:Activities of European cities to achieve climate neutrality\nLjubljana\, Slovenia | September 16-17\, 2021\nSRIP Smart Cities and Communities in cooperation with the Jožef Stefan Institute\, the Urban Institute of the Republic of Slovenia\, CER – Partnership for the Sustainable Economy of Slovenia and the Association of Municipalities of Slovenia invites you to a scientific conference entitled Activities of European Cities for Climate Neutrality. We have decided to hold a scientific conference in the light of Europe’s efforts to become climate-neutral by 2050\, led by new European Commission missions\, including the ‘100 Climate-neutral cities by 2030 – for citizens’ mission. In this mission\, the Commission will support and promote 100 European cities on their path to carbon neutrality. The topics of the conference will shed light on some of the issues facing and will be encountered by cities on their path to climate neutrality. Cities and their representatives will gain insight into possible proposals and solutions to the problems that await them in establishing climate neutrality. The conference will address three topics\, all three of which are equally important in achieving climate neutrality. The first topic concerns the production\, storage and distribution of renewable energy sources\, the second topic presents possible solutions to tackle greenhouse gas emissions\, especially CO2\, the highest among them. The third topic will address mobility\, and how new forms of mobility can help reduce CO2 emissions. The conference will host experts from various fields at four round tables/panels\, which will shed additional light on the topics that await us on the path to achieving climate neutrality in the coming years. \nCall for abstracts are due on June 21\, 2021! \nPlease find the conference brochure here. \nFor more information\, visit the conference website!

SUMMARY:ISOCARP International Regional Event #1 @ REAL CORP21
DESCRIPTION:IRE # 1 is the first of a series of experiences realized through this new ISOCARP tool for meeting and exchange ideas between professionals in urban planning. A symposium among experts that aims to bring global issues closer to specific macro-regional contexts: On the occasion of this first IRE we start from the macro-regional context of Europe\, the next ones will address other macro-regions of the world. The IRE combines global considerations with the local context\, associating “macro” reflections\, policies and strategies\, with the implementation context and practices (plans and tools): The needs of the “micro”. \nThis first IRE experience will take place in Vienna from 7 to 10 September 2021. The event will be in person\, unless there are impediments related to the pandemic. In every case\, the event will be broadcasted online as well. It will be realized in a hybrid form (someone online\, someone in person) in order to facilitate the participation of those that cannot travel to Vienna. \nRegister and submit your abstract by 19/07/2021! \nThese are the three topics that we will address together in the symposium: \n\nDesigning and planning the post-pandemic city. Which planning contexts have priority? How to design hybrid models (places\, functions\, governance models\, city platforms…) for planning the post covid city? How to make paths of urban innovation sustainable?\nNature Based Solutions as a way to shape a sustainable future for our cities. How to make theme effective to promote sustainable urban development and launching coherent and stable processes of urban regeneration?\nCulture and Culture Heritage (C&CH) can make the difference in the transition towards the “New Normal”. How do can culture and C&CH can promote new sustainable economies in the city? How to place cultural heritage in the context of current urban policies? What is the role of local communities? How to harmonise\, protect\, use and enhance the cultural heritage in the contemporary city?\n\nZOOMING IN \nAdditionally\, a special consideration that takes us to the heart of the problems of EU contemporaneity: What does cross border planning mean in theoretically borderless territories (Schengen Area)? This last special session\, coordinated by ISOCARP SG Frank D’hondt\, invites planners to exchange and discuss recent practices and research to overcome and prevent negative externalities of national borders on any kind of cross-border and transnational urban area. The session will provide a good opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas on the particular case of the so-called Eurodelta – the potential 40 million transnational and polycentric megalopolis comprised of the nearly contiguous urban area of the Low Countries (BeNeLux)\, Western Germany\, Northern France and even across the channel towards the Thames Gateway. Discussions can focus on both the internal territorial cohesion and collaboration\, as well on the global benchmarking and exchange with other megalopolises in mainly Asia and America\, bearing the potential to explore ‘planning the future megalopolises’. \nFOCUSSING ON THE KEY TOPICS \nMoreover\, we are very proud to inform you that on the occasion of this first IRE\, we will have a special event with EU international experts relating on the topics of Nature Based Solutions and Cultural Heritage. Our guests will hold five inspiring keynotes: \n \nGrowing new roots for the city: Nature Based Solutions as the future of planning for the planet. SUMMARY:REAL CORP 2021
DESCRIPTION:REAL CORP 2021\nCITIES 20.50 – CREATING HABITATS FOR THE 3RD MILLENNIUM\nSMART – SUSTAINABLE – CLIMATE NEUTRAL \nSeptember 7-10\, 2021\nVienna \nUrbanisation of the world is progressing rapidly and seems to be an unstoppable process. According to current forecasts\, more than 6 billion people will live in cities in 2050. Compared to 1950\, this is almost a tenfold increase in 100 years\, resulting from global population growth and the continuing influx of people into urban areas. As a rule\, population growth also means additional land requirements. Urban growth often takes place across administrative borders\, cities grow into their surrounding areas\, (cross-border) urban and metropolitan regions emerge and also influence the development of rural areas\, where in turn numerous initiatives for independent sustainable development emerge. \nThis dynamic development is accompanied by enormous challenges for the organisation and maintenance of urban processes\, particularly in the areas of technical and social infrastructure\, affordable housing\, mobility\, recreation\, security of supply\, etc. Sustainability\, resilience and smartness are essential characteristics of cities and regions and are often compared by means of benchmarks. The key question is how quality of life can be maintained and improved in the face of dynamic development of living space. \nEven though the world is currently under the spell of the COVID-19 pandemic\, it is clear that climate and environmental issues will be decisive for urban development in the coming decades. Climate adaptation strategies will play a central role\, because especially in cities\, high density\, increasing land sealing\, lack of greenery and inadequate ventilation increasingly lead to the formation of urban heat islands and the problem of urban warming. \nHow can urban and spatial planning and all related disciplines contribute to maintaining urban flows\, functioning infrastructure and preserving and improving the quality of life? How can urban and rural living spaces actively cross-fertilise each other’s development? \nREAL CORP invites for contributions from all areas of expertise to gain a holistic and multi-faceted view on challenges and future scenarios in the urban realm. Next to science-based contributions we also welcome practise-based reports on short term actions and/or long-term strategies on urban and regional development. \nWe will reflect on the global COVID crisis in a special track\, asking for contributions dealing with human well-being\, public health\, blue and green as critical infrastructure and the role of planning and mitigating strategies before\, during and after the pandemic. \nHere are the main topics REAL CORP 2021 is going to deal with: \n\nApproaching the Big Challenges\nUrban Lifestyles\nReal Estate Development and Settlement Patterns (affordable\, mixed\, resource-optimised)\nTransportation and Mobility (multi-modal\, climate neutral\, resource-efficient)\nEnergy (Extraction\, Consumption\, Distribution/Storage\, Management)\nPublic Space\, Blue-Green Infrastructure\nTechnological Innovation and its Impact on Cities (5G\, IoT\, blockchain\, digital twin\, AI\, VR\, 3D printing\, robots\, BIM\, gaming\, …)\nPost-Carbon Economy and a more Ecological Economy and Society\nSocial Innovation\n\nThere are also some special topics which REAL CORP 2021 presents in close co-operation with the respective partners mentioned: \n\nUrban Climate Adaptation Strategies and Affordability of Life: How can that work? (partner: IBA Vienna)\nEU Mission: Climate Neutral and Smart Cities (partners: BMK\, AustriaTech)\nIntegrated Spatial and Energy Planning (partner: IRUB/BOKU)\nCross-Border Spatial Development (partner: RWTH Aachen)\nDisasters\, Emergencies\, Epidemics and the Role of Planning\n\nDeadline for abstract submission: March 15\, 2021 \nFor more information on how to register\, click here.
