The Paradox of Planning Implementation across the Globe

The Paradox of Planning Implementation across the Globe

November 4-6, 2020

The World Town Planning Day is an internationally recognised and celebrated day by town planners with the intention of addressing global issues that affect humanity. Many countries and institutions across the globe take their own initiatives and commemorate this day in different ways. In the South African context, the World Town Planning Day will be celebrated under the theme “The Paradox of Planning Implementation across the Globe”. Deliberations on this theme will revolve around:

  • Smart Cities
  • Planning in the Face of Covid-19
  • Climate Change
  • Planning Regulations
  • Urban Design
  • Inclusive Human Settlements
  • 4th Industrial Revolution

The event is organised by eThekwini Municipality and the Department of Town and Regional Planning at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in association with other stakeholders, including the South African Council of Planners (SACPLAN), South African City Networks (SACN) and the International Society for City and Regional Planning (ISOCARP). Given the challenges associated with Covid-19, this year’s celebrations will be held online between November 4-6, 2020.
