The Finals of the 22nd International Awards for Liveable Communities/LivCom Awards will be held in Cairo, Egypt in early November 2024. After joint confirmation by the Egyptian Government and UN-Habitat, the LivCom Finals will be organized as a parallel event of the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12), lasting for 4 days and including the Finals Presentations, the International Forum on Building Smart and Liveable Cities, a technical conference and a training session.

LivCom Committee will be partnering with multiple UN Agencies and international organizations, in particularly ISOCARP, UNCRD, UN-INIA, UNESCO, etc. Relevant organizations from EU, the League of Arab States and UNU systems are expected to join in the cooperation subsequently.

As LivCom’s partner organization, ISOCARP calls for outstanding cities and projects from across the world to actively participate in LivCom 2024. As to our member institutions, you’re more than welcome to nominate cities or represent the cities you’re providing services for to participate.

This year, ISOCARP intends to work with LivCom Committee in co-launching the Planning & Design Award under the category of Project Award (Environmentally Sustainable Project Award). Targeted at sustainable urban planning, building design and large-scale residential communities, the Planning & Design Award is open to the projects with complete planning & design but yet to be built. The Judging Criteria for P&D Award are the same as that used to judge Project Award.

As a UN-backed international competition, the LivCom Awards was launched in 1997 and is the World’s major Awards Competition focusing on International Best Practice regarding the management of the local environment and development, with further objective of improving the quality of life of individual citizens through the creation of “liveable communities”. Over the past 2 decades, over 70 countries are represented within the Awards.

LivCom has been taking participation and sharing as an important goal. Numerous outstanding winner cities consider participation in LivCom as a significant platform and exchange opportunity for city development and improvement of living quality. Cities will in return learn about the best practices and solutions from other countries facing similar challenges.

This year’s Awards is centred on mobilizing local authorities to focus on the management of local environment and development with the theme of building smart, liveable and sustainable cities. As such, technologies, projects and initiatives related to the construction of smart cities are encouraged to be included in the Submission.

LivCom Awards are made annually in three categories covering Whole Cities, Projects and Technologies& Solutions. Entrants of the Whole City Award registered through ISOCARP are required to provide a Registration Form prior to 1 July 2024 and Written Submission (no more than 4500 words and in strict accordance to the Six Judging Criteria) to info@livcomawards.org prior to 1 August 2024. After interim evaluation and review, the shortlisted entrants are required to organize a delegation to take part in onsite Finals Presentations, followed by questions asked by the Judges at the Finals organized in Cairo this early November.

The Judging Criteria mainly cover the following 6 aspects:

  • Enhancement of the Landscapes and Public Spaces
  • Arts, Culture and Heritage Management
  • Environmental Protection and Green Economy
  • Community Participation and Empowerment
  • Healthy Lifestyle
  • Sustainable Planning and Management Policies

Participation in LivCom is free of charge. However, it will be necessary to cover your own travel expenses (flights& accommodation) and personal costs.
