ISOCARP and perspective.brussels jointly organised a two day seminar and city trip in the Canal Zone in Brussels, 19 & 20 January 2017.

In Durban, the Brussels Capital Region was acknowledged with the ISOCARP Award for Excellence for the planning and the transformation process of the Canal Zone: “The submission is an ambitious and innovative multi-disciplinary planning tool, developed to achieve the urban (re)development of the central districts while tackling the main socio-economic and environmental challenges,” the jury concluded.

This informal two day event provided first hand information by the award winning Brussels planning officials. The city trips led the participants on foot, by bike and public transport to the various parts and projects in the Brussels Canal Zone. The NextCity Seminar and NextCity Trip took two full days and started at Hotel Belvue (www.belvuehotel.com) in the heart of the Brussels Canal Zone. Registration fee for both days was €100 for members (and their partners) and €200 for non-members. The registration fee included coffee and lunches but did not include the hotel and the informal dinners.

ISOCARP is preparing more NextCity Seminars and NextCity Trips in 2017 and 2018 in Athens, Antwerp & Ghent, Seattle and Portland.
