Dushko Bogunovich is an architect, urban designer, town planner and academic, with residence in Auckland, New Zealand. He is currently an adjunct professor at the School of Architecture and Planning at Auckland University. Before that, he was the inaugural Dean and Professor of Urban Design and Planning at the Ba Isago University in Botswana.

Dushko received his education at the universities of Sarajevo; Belgrade; Cyprus; Pennsylvania; and California/Berkeley. He is a life member of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) the Urban Design Forum (UDF) of NZ.

Dushko was twice a Fulbright scholar, has won several urban design competition awards, has received many research and travel grants, and is often invited to key note conferences and workshops. He has worked as a consultant with UNDP, UNEP, UN-Habitat, and the NZ central and local government. His two books and more than 100 papers and statements over the past 30 years have consistently addressed the subjects of urban-form; metabolism; technology; infrastructure; planning; design; and future.

Dushko has travelled widely and has been a visiting scholar or professor to the universities of Oxford, Bologna, Genoa, Wismar and the Milan Polytechnic.

His current research is on the regional city, peri-urbanisation and retrofitting suburbia in the light of the accelerating global climate crisis. Results show that ‘urban sprawl’ is not all bad news. Its low density, coupled with decentralised, clean and green infrastructure, could deliver the Resilient City-Region, a model far superior to the usually argued compact Sustainable City, as we face the disrupted climate of the mid-21st century.
