Selection Process

The selection process can have multiple results since different Selection Teams will be looking at the abstract from different angles. The YPP Coordinators will also evaluate the documents mentioned above.
1) The abstracts will be evaluated by the General Rapporteur of the congress and the congress team.
2) The set of documents will be assessed by the Vice President YPPs and the YPPs Coordinators. The following aspects also have to be taken into account: (i) equal participation per continent (ii) equal representation of males and females (iii) representation of different disciplines related to planning.

Possible selection results:

  1. The YPP candidate is selected by both:
    > The Vice President YPP/Coordinators YPP Workshop and the main Congress General Rapporteur/Congress Team

  2. The YPP candidate is selected by
    > The YPP Vice Presidents/Coordinators YPP Workshop, but not by the main Congress General Rapporteur/Congress Team
    In this case:
    • The candidate will be invited for participation in the YPPs’ Workshop.
    • The candidate will not be invited as a ‘Paper Presenter’ to one of main congress Workshops.
    • The candidate will nevertheless be officially considered a YPP and is expected to participate (compulsory) in both the YPPs Programme prior to the congress and to the main congress.
  3. The YPP candidate is selected by
    > The main congress General Rapporteur/Congress Team, but not by the YPP Vice President/Coordinators YPP Workshop
    In this case:

All invited YPPs having completed the Agreement Protocol have to pay a reduced registration fee that gives entrance to both the 3 days YPPs Programme as well as to the main Congress.
They will receive the congress portfolio (see registration Congress).

Congress Registration and Accommodation, once selected/invited

In order to create a strong international relationship, ISOCARP appreciates that all invited YPPs stay in the same hotel at least for the duration of the 3 YPPs programme days. This facilitates the logistic arrangements to be made for those 3 days. The Local Organizing Committee will pay for a modest accommodation of all Young Planning Professionals.

Invited YPPs have to register online.

Invited YPPs who would like to bring along their Partner:

Finances

ISOCARP does not have the financial means to give travel sponsoring. ISOCARP encourages candidates to look for sponsoring in their own country.

YPPs Publication

After the Congress a CD-Rom on the YPPs’ workshop will be published. All YPPs are obliged to write down the results of the work of their specific group during the congress or immediately after. Whereas the results presented by the YPPs at the main congress mostly will be done through means of a Powerpoint Presentation, this report is a written one and includes some of the pictures of the powerpoint presentation. The final lay-out, printing, etc. of the book will be done by ISOCARP/stakeholders. (For examples of past years, have a look at the ISOCARP website: publications).

Routledge Poster Prize

ROUTLEDGE Publishers (UK) has made available a money prize to ISOCARP. All YPPs – whether accepted or not for Paper Presentation in the main Congress – are asked to bring along a Poster related to the Congress Theme. All Posters will be exhibited at the main Congress Venue. The Routledge Poster Prize will be awarded to the Poster that best presents the contents of the paper in a visual way. The communicative quality will be the most important criterion. Congress participants should want to “read” the poster, preferably on more than one level of attention and detail; attention is also paid to an attractive design and layout. There will be an Award Ceremony during the congress. Poster format: follows after YPP selection/invitation
