Exhibition
1. City Exhibition
In this exhibition area cities invited to the Policy-makers’ Summit will present their cases.
Strategic structure plan
Every municipality in Flanders has to prepare a so-called “structure” plan: a policy plan stipulating its vision for the mid- and long-term and a short- and mid-term action plan for the city. Bernardo Secchi and Paola Viganò are the authors of ‘Designing Antwerp’ – the structure plan for Antwerp. An outline of the strategic structure plan will be shown at the Elzenveld venue.
2. Young Planning Professional (YPP) Exhibition
Young Planning Professionals being invited to both of the 2 YPPs Workshops held prior to the congress and being automatically invited to join the main congress, take part in the ROUTLEDGE Poster Award.
A micro history
This exhibition will contain material by Secchi-Viganò titled “A micro history: The re-use of Antwerp’s 19th century belt”, dealing with porousness that has opened up in the urban fabric to host new dwelling practices.
3. Free Display Tables
Registered Congress Delegates can:
> display flyers or articles on free display tables.
> ask for ISOCARP Book Sales services Desk: contact isocarp@isocarp.org
4. Publishers
ISOCARP, wanting to give its delegates all the possible resources on scientific books on planning and related to planning issues, has selected/invited four Publishers in Planning Books and Magazines.
About Antwerp
Antwerp is the economic hub of Flanders (Belgium). It is a multicultural metropolis with about half a million inhabitants and more than one hundred different nationalities.
With 20% of the Flemish population, more than 25% of paid employment, added value and investments by the Flemish district and 40% of Flemish exports, the Antwerp area has an impressive economic potential.
Also, Antwerp represents a thousand years of architecture and five centuries of music and artistic & decorative crafts. Our metropolis shines as brightly as the gems that made it the world’s centre of the diamond industry, trading 85% of all rough, 50% of all polished and 45% of all industrial diamonds. In less than one square mile, more than half of the total world production passes through a network of diamond bourses, workshops and over 1.500 companies.
Antwerp buzzes with just as much energy, since our port is one of the busiest and biggest ports of the world. It ranks number four in the world (number two in Europe), and harbours Europe’s largest chemical industry. Moreover, it is one of the fastest growing ports for both leisure cruises and container transport.
Antwerp is also a university town. Some 30.000 students gather knowledge and wisdom in colleges all over the city. Antwerp is also the cradle of modern business schools.
Furthermore, Antwerp is well-known internationally for its nautical college and its Royal academy of fashion. If you haven’t yet heard of Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Bikkembergs and Dries Van Noten, who all used to study here, our brand new fashion museum MoMu will soon bring you up to date with our city’s hot couture.
Antwerp has a rich cultural heritage with famous names as Rubens, Van Dijck, Jordaens and many others. The city is also a centre for contemporary cultural creativity.
When it comes to shopping, finally, you’ll find all the flagship stores or antiques boutiques your heart desires. Our city’s centre is largely a pedestrian zone, which makes the hunt all the more pleasant.
Because of its geographical position, Antwerp is THE gateway to Europe.
