Nomination criteria for Board Director vacancies

1.⁠ ⁠Professional competence
Candidates hold recognized qualifications and substantial professional experience in line with their years in practice in urban and regional planning or a related field, demonstrating leadership and strategic relevance to ISOCARP’s mission.

2.⁠ ⁠Commitment and Integrity
Candidates can demonstrate a record of engagement with ISOCARP and commit to upholding its vision, mission and values. They must adhere to high ethical standards, show integrity in personal and professional conduct, and act in the organisation’s best interest. Candidates commit to accountable decision-making and actions in their role as Board Directors.

3.⁠ ⁠Time Commitment
Candidates are able to dedicate sufficient time to Board duties, including preparation for meetings, active participation in meetings and decision-making, and contribution to organizational initiatives.

4.⁠ ⁠Term Limitation
Former Board members who have already served on the Board for two terms or have resigned voluntary during their service as Board member, are not eligible for re-election, enabling renewal, stability, and diversity of leadership.

5.⁠ ⁠Professional affiliations and Conflict of Interest
Candidates have not more than two similar positions at Board/governance level and which are not contradicting with ISOCARP vision, mission and values. They should disclose any potential conflict of interest. Board service must remain independent of any personal, commercial or political interest.

6.⁠ ⁠Constructive attitude and collaborative leadership
Candidates are expected to bring a constructive approach to collaborating with others and addressing challenges, readiness to promote a positive atmosphere within the Board ,and engage constructively with the wider ISOCARP community.

7.⁠ ⁠Strategic and Forward-Looking Vision
Candidates should bring a future-oriented perspective, supporting innovation, fundraising, partnerships, and initiatives that strengthen ISOCARP’s global relevance and impact.

Directors of the Board are elected by the members for three years. Members may be elected for a maximum of  two consecutive three-year terms (with exception of the President). Those elected must continue to be active members of the Society during their term of office.

2.⁠ ⁠Commitment, Integrity and Conflict of Interest
Candidates can demonstrate a record of engagement with ISOCARP and commit to upholding its vision, mission and values. They must adhere to high ethical standards, show integrity in personal and professional conduct, and act in the organisation’s best interest. Candidates commit to accountable decision-making and actions in their role as SciCom members. Candidates should disclose any potential conflict of interest, and ensure independence and impartiality in their advisory role.

3.⁠ ⁠Time Commitment
Candidates must be able to dedicate sufficient time to SciCom duties, including preparation for meetings, active participation to SciCom discussions, working groups and publications, and contribution to organizational initiatives. Prolonged inactivity or non engagement may result in a review of SciCom membership status to maintain the committees effectiveness.

4.⁠ ⁠Term Limitation
Members may be appointed for a maximum of two consecutive three-year terms.

5.⁠ ⁠Interdisciplinary and International Outlook
Given SciCom’s advisory role in global debates, candidates should show the ability to work across disciplines, regions, and sectors, bringing diverse perspectives to planning and policy issues. International experience or engagement in global initiatives is highly valued.

Candidates should bring a future-oriented perspective, supporting innovation, partnerships, and initiatives that strengthen ISOCARP’s global relevance and impact.

Members of the Scientific Committee are appointed by the Board for three years, Congress to Congress. Those elected must continue to be active members of the Society during their term of office.
