ISOCARP is delighted to announce that together with the Balkan Architectural Biennale (BAB) and International Scientific Board with Partners, we are co-organising the BAB 23 International Conference “Global Village – Shelter for Resilient Living 2”.

The Conference will take place on the 21st and 22nd of November, 2023 in the Salon of the Belgrade City Museum, Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra 30, Belgrade.

From the architectural, urban-morphological, technological, and planning perspectives, the event will address the benefits and drawbacks of “iconic nomads” who, as representatives of local cultures, contribute to the formation of a global village by embracing components of variety and developing new socio-cultural networks.

ISOCARP’s thematic session “The role of Urban planners in managing the Climate transition” led by our President Pietro Elisei will focus on how to translate the ambition of key policies, like EU Green Deal and Agenda 2030, in the daily practices. Through real case studies in urban and rural contexts, the session will show how to use these practices in design and implementation while fulfilling the request of overarching instruments and programmes. Key topics to explore are Nature Based Solutions, PEDS and Energy Communities, Urban Regeneration, Culture Heritage as driver for creating local sustainable economies, and the issue of depopulating small and medium sized cities in South-East Europe.

All thematic sessions:

  • Architecture of Global Village: Patterns, Forms, Systems
  • Planning and arranging the Global Village: Instruments and Models
  • Modern technologies in Risk Management Territories
  • Forms of Movement and Mobility management in the Global Village
  • The role of Urban Planners in managing the Climate transition
  • New models of Architecture in transition
  • Resilient Cities in the era of Globalization: Urban interventions towards a sustainable future
  • Healthy City Healthy People: Designing future cities for “mind body and soul”

We invite our global network of urban and regional planners to submit their abstracts to our thematic session via email (conference@bab.rs) until June, 20th.

We are looking forward to your contributions!
