Under the heading “ Planning Action for a Just Transition to a Net-Zero Climate Resilient World”, the GPN – the largest gathering of national and international planning associations including ISOCARP – calls for urgent action to stop any further irreversible degradation of the natural world and adverse impacts on communities globally before the window for action closes. GPN expresses its “firm belief that planners throughout the world have the unique skills, talent, desire, and commitment to tackle the global crisis we now face”, and that “planners stand ready to play their part to harness transformative changes for a better, fairer, more sustainable future”. In GPN’s member-meeting on 23 November, attended by ISOCARP Secretary general Frank D’hondt, ISOCARP was congratulated for its successful 59th World Planning Congress in Toronto and lauded for its initiative to establish a COP28 delegation including a representative from the Royal Town Planning Institute, chairing the GPN and recently welcomed as new institutional member of ISOCARP. In its meeting, GPN members also discussed the implementation of the Roadmap for Habitat Professional Forum, of which ISOCARP is also a member.
