In a joint session, the focal points of both UN-Habitat and ISOCARP reviewed the work plan to implement the new Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in 2020, valid until 2030, coinciding with the ‘Decade of Action’ to implement the SDGs. The workplace team, led by Laura Petrella for UN-Habitat coordinated by Frank D’hondt and supervised by Pietro Elisei for ISOCARP, agreed to (re)focus on the following areas of collaboration:
- ‘New Planning Agenda’, linked to the roadmap of the Habitat Professionals Forum as ISOCARP’s contribution to the Quito+5 review of the New Urban Agenda at a high-level meeting in New York on 28 April as well towards WUF11 and 58th World Planning Congress.\
- Strengthened ISOCARP role in Habitat Professionals Forum, administered by UN-Habitat.
- Continued engagement of ISOCARP in UN-Habitat’s World Urban Campaign, including Urban Thinkers Campuses and ‘The City We Need’ campaign.
- Continued engagement of ISOCARP in the P4CA network to advance Climate Action Planning (through our Climate Team).
- Involving UN-Habitat in our 58th World Planning Congress on Healthy Cities.
- Our involvement in UN-Habitat’s World Urban Forum 11 in Katowice end of June – with a possible joint application for a Training Event on reforming planning systems.
- Continued collaboration within our CoP Urban Innovation and CoP Urban Health.
- New joint initiative related to public space and commons (eventually in partnership with Public Space Journal).
- Continued collaboration on metropolitan governance, climate change and promotion of Nature Base Solutions.
- Enhanced exchange on UN-Habitat’s LAB and our UPAT’s/YPP’s.
- Continued collaboration within Urban Economy Forum with joint focus on World Urban Pavilion.
- Exploration of a new collaboration on planning for migration, urban poverty, and displacement.
