About ISOCARP
The International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) is a global member-association of urban and regional planners. ISOCARP coordinates various planning activities and research initiatives for and with its network of international members, including webinars, workshops and publications, amongst many other projects.
Most prominently, since its foundation in 1965 ISOCARP organises an annual World Planning Congress for city and regional planners. Its Secretariat is located in The Hague, The Netherlands and comprises a young team of about eight employees. From here our activities around the globe are coordinated.
Job Profile
As an international association, the core business of ISOCARP is to support its global member community, consisting of individual (appx. 750) and institutional members (appx. 40). In your role as ‘Graphic and Web designer’ your main tasks will be to prepare all creative materials for our annual World Planning Congress in November this year, to develop and manage the back-end and front-end of the ISOCARP websites, and to provide regular graphic design assistance support to the projects and activities of the Secretariat.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Graphic Design duties
- Creating and editing all digital and print graphic media outputs for the World Planning Congress, under the supervision of the Congress Director. This includes the preparation of online and print publications, badges, roll-up signages, certificates, flyers, banners, brochures and other creative formats.
- Generating digital creative assets for all activities and announcements promoted on the ISOCARP websites, social media channels, newsletters, etc.
- Gradually developing one clear coherent corporate identity (CI) visible in all of ISOCARP’s banners and digital platforms.
- Supporting Secretariat staff with creative content to promote and conduct events, partnerships and collaborations, and all other activities.
- Website Management
- Continuous administration and development of the website back-end & front-end (via WordPress – Avada), including the Members’ Area, paper platform, etc.
- Improvement of content management, SEO and website performances based on analytics & data reports.
- Constantly ensuring privacy and GDPR compliance.
- Continuing with the restoration and ‘clean-up’ of the website back-end.
- Assisting in managing and editing (creative content) the separate Congress website (Dryfta).
Profile and Competencies of Our Ideal Candidate
- Functional competencies
- Strong graphic design and creative skills. You can demonstrate this in your application by including a graphic design portfolio/examples of previous projects.
- Proficiency in design software including Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
- Demonstrable ability to create infographics and visualising complex information.
- A keen eye for aesthetics and details.
- Experience in building and maintaining websites by using WordPress/Avada/Dryfta (or similar web-editing platforms) as well as basic skills of HTML and CSS.
- Excellent command of the English language (our working language), both written and oral. It is recommended but not mandatory to speak Dutch.
- Profile
- Has a track record of professional graphic design experience.
- Is interested to work in an international organisation
- Is organised but flexible when working with the team, has a hands-on mentality, strong initiative, and problem-solving skills
- Is able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
- Has a(n) (under)graduate degree closely related to urbanism – e.g., urban planning, urban design, urban studies, or similar (not essential but preferred).
- Has a visa to live and work in the EU/the Netherlands. Working from abroad is not possible.

- A part-time position for 24-28 hours/week (more or less, days are negotiable)
- A 6-month position, subject to a year-long extension to be considered at the end of the contract
