On 25 September 2014 ISOCARP and SACPLAN signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The purpose of this MoU is to establish collaborative arrangements between the parties to achieve common goals and objectives.

This MoU provides the basis for mutual cooperation regarding the 52nd ISOCARP Congress to take place in 2016 as well as the twin objectives of bettering planning practice and planning education internationally. The MoU serves as a basic commitment document to develop a plan of actions which identifies joint activities and actions for the coming three years.

This MoU provides the basis for mutual cooperation regarding other join activities and events upon which the parties agree to work together.

The parties will fully cooperate with each other as well as other interested bodies such as universities and other centers of planning education, research or practice. If appropriate, a Steering Committee may be formed in due course to fully exploit every possibility of leveraging increasingly advantageous projects for both parties. A set of rules and working procedures will be devised for any steering committee that may be formed in the future.
