On 26 February 2017, Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation (GIUI) and ISOCARP signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The participants now consider themselves as co-operation and knowledge partners.
The MoU has the following specific objectives;

- To have an open attitude to explore possibilities for collaboration and to strengthen the relationship between Participants in the fields of urban planning and innovation in urban governance,
- To clarify the general conditions for participation in events joint projects and the arrangement of workshops and seminars,
- To monitor progress of joint activities and obtained results,
- To develop in co-operation a plain of action which identifies the joint activities and actions for the coming three years to be reviewed each year.
