ISOCARP China Council Member and Urban Planner of Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning & Design Institute, China, Mr Sheng Ying has recently acted as the judge of the first UN-led open design challenge UNDP-Baidu Geek for Good Open Design Challenge in China. Mr Sheng Ying is invited as one of the 11 global judge members in the expert panel, engaging influential people from technology, academic and development practitioners to share insights on how tech-based responsible innovation can transform the society and generate public goods.

The Geek for Good Open Design Challenge has concluded in Beijing on April 25, 2017 with 10 finalists showcasing innovative tech solutions designed to address development challenges and promote the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Open Design Challenge attracted participants ranging in age from 15 to 63 and their innovations were equally diverse. The 4 key themes in the Open Design Challenge include environment, transport, disaster and poverty.

By fostering creativity among community and youth groups, Geek for Good is the first event of its kind to focus on promoting sustainable development in China. Nicholas Rosellini, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Agi Veres, Country Director of UNDP China, and Zhang Yaqin, President of Baidu joined the ceremony.
