Lorraine Gonzales, USA
Lorraine Gonzales has worked in the land use planning profession for over twenty years. She has experience in both urban and rural land use planning and has been a project manager and essential technical and advisory team member on significant projects to include various comprehensive and master plans for new urban areas and light rail transit oriented developments. She has participated in the development of pedestrian and bicycle master plans, transportation project plans and public facilities plans. She is experienced in developing policy language and planning documents, and processing of various land use applications for commercial, industrial, multi-family and mixed use developments.
Her experience in the government land use planning field involves constant coordination among government agencies on the local, regional, state, and federal levels. She is well versed in the public involvement process, which is an essential and primary goal of the Oregon Statewide Planning Goals.
Lorraine is currently employed as a Senior Planner for Clackamas County (394,972 population) which is one of three urban counties in the greater Portland, Oregon metropolitan region (2,348,247 million people). She is a member of the American Planning Association (APA) and has been an ISOCARP member since 2008. She is currently serving as an ISOCARP USA national delegate and has attended the Portugal, China, Russia, Poland, and Netherlands congresses and served on the 2010 Sitges V Urban Planning Advisory Team and 2014 Poland Congress Team.
Tathagata Chatterji, India
Tathagata Chatterji is a professor at the School of Planning and Architecture Vijayawada, India and visiting faculty for urban governance at the Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology, Shibpur. Earlier, he was the coordinator for the urban design and development program at Manipal University and prior to that, taught at the University of Queensland. His research and teaching interest focuses on comparative urban governance; rural-urban interface; urban design and politics of place-making, theories of settlement planning, knowledge economy clusters in transitional countries; interface between local vernacular traditions and modernity. He has authored two books, over thirty research papers and regularly contributes op-ed articles on issues pertaining to urban governance, planning and design. Tathagata also has over 20 years of international consultancy experience and had been involved in master planning for satellite cities, industrial clusters, Special Economic Zones and urban infrastructure projects. He is a corporate member of the Planning Institute of Australia and a fellow of the Institute of Urban Designers India.
James Chakwizira
James Chakwizira is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department: Urban and Regional Planning in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Venda in South Africa. James previously worked as Head: Roads and Traffic Engineering at the Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC). During the same period he deputised the Director – Building Technology Institute. He has also worked as a Senior Researcher and Acting Research Group Leader at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) initially in the Rural Infrastructure and Services Competency Area and later in the Transport Systems and Operations Competency Area.
James is an experienced spatial and transportation specialist who has consulted on national and regional projects/programmes in Africa, Asia and Europe. He has published, taught at universities in Southern Africa, practiced in both the public and private sector leading multidisciplinary teams and units concentrating on transportation, spatial development, sustainable development, climate change, appropriate technology and sustainable human settlements.
