Young Planning Professionals Workshop – Preparations

CALL to Young Planning Professionals Candidates

Since 1991 the objective of the YPPs’ Workshops has been to bring together young professional urban planners from all parts of the world. The workshops provide an opportunity to work together as a closely-knit team. The Workshop has its own specific theme which is related to the main Congress theme. The theme relates to a concrete area/project. These are hands-on workshops establishing a good working relationship with young colleagues from all parts of the world and aiming at final findings and results in a very short period of time.

Selection Process
A Team of Local and International Coordinators under the leadership of the ISOCARP Vice President for YPPs was involved in the Selection Process.

YPPs Participation in the main ISOCARP Congress

After the Young Planning Professionals’ Workshop, all YPPs have to participate (compulsory) in the ISOCARP main congress (19 – 23 September 2010).

The Project Area
About 8-10 km from Nairobi City Centre
About 5sq.km
Project  along Ngong River/Nairobi Dam
Covering Kibera housing low income informal housing area and Nyayo Highrise residential flats, and Mbagathi Road to the North East.
Covering Langata Road and adjacent residential neighbourhood of Dam Estate, Onyonka, Otiende, Rubia etc.

Provisional Programme
Wed, 15 September: Arrival of invited YPPs in Nairobi, Welcome Dinner
Thu, Fri and Sat, 16, 17 and 18 September: YPP Workshops, Field Work, Studio Work – University of Nairobi
Sun, 19 September: joining the main congress
