Thursday, 14 September – Offered by the Local Organising Committee
Location: by the ancient water lily pond at the university premises, which was once part of the 19th century Ottoman Yildiz Palace grounds.
Istanbul Technical Tour (for Congress Delegates and Companions)
Friday, 15 September
The tour (by boat) is offered by the Local Organising Committee (Maximum of 200 persons). It will take us along the Bosphorus, which is a unique setting with magnificent sea-side mansions dating from various periods on both the European and Asian sides of this “Grand Water Alle.” The participants shall also have an overview of the urban transformation of Istanbul over the last few decades and shall have an opportunity to observe various aspects of integration and disintegration as a result of the dynamics of rapid urbanization.
The boat will make a stop at one of the fishermen’s villages along the Bosphorus where participants and their companions might want to take a dinner (optional) or just take a walk on their own.

Cost: €60.00/person (includes lunch) (Minimum 20 persons)
A full-day tour exploring the Byzantine and Ottoman relics including the renowned monuments of Hagia
Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar.

Programme: under construction (focus on the Metropolitan City of Istanbul)
Offered by the Local Organising Committee.
Participants are invited to join these Mobile Workshops.
Participants are reminded to arrange for an extra two night accommodation in Istanbul.
Single day participations are permitted; special inscription for each day is required.

. Walk through the ‘’Fairy Chimneys’’ in DEVRENT VALLEY, PASABAG (MONKS) VALLEY,
. Visit to GÖREME the ‘’open air museum’’ holding the earliest churches and chapels carved in fairy chimneys presenting the finest examples of frescoes,
. Visit to the PIGEON VALLEY, petrified valley of UÇHISAR, the highest point in the region .
Evening: back to hotel
22 September (Fri)
. Walk into the Wonderland at Kizilçukur and the village of ÇAVUSIN with rock-cut dwellings and the
. City of KAYMAKLI (rock-cut up to 8 – 9 levels underground), where early Christians used to hide from Roman and Byzantine persecution. Explore the rock formations ÇATALKAYA.
Evening: back to hotel
23 September (Sat)
. Visit DERINKUYU underground city , walk through the amazing IHLARA VALLEY.
. Visit to the monasteries at YAPRAKHISAR and SELIME.
Late Afternoon: plane back to Istanbul
Evening: Arrival at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 21:45 hrs.
