ISOCARP Young Planning Professionals National Workshop
1st edition of the Gdynia Urban School
7th AESOP European Urban Summer School

In partnership with

City of Gdynia
AESOP – Association of European Schools of Planning
Society of Polish Town Planners – TUP
Committee for Spatial Economy and Regional Planning – Polish Academy of Sciences
Gdansk University of Technology – Department of Urban Design and Regional Planning

ISOCARP, the City of Gdynia and TUP (Society of Polish Town Planners) had made an agreement which entailed a Young Planning Professionals National Workshop, intended for Polish and international young planners and being part of a wider scheme of cooperation between the organisations involved.

The workshop was organized along with the International Conference LIVING IN THE CITY – PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES OF SHAPING HOUSING POLICY, hosted by the City of Gdynia.

The workshop aimed to provide young Polish and international planners responsible for, or participating in, the shaping and development of settlements, with the principles and practices of effective contemporary urbanism and practical knowledge that will be of immediate use to each participant.

YPP workshop intended to become a point of reference for further discussions and advancement of planning research and practice within the field of housing. This was also justified by the fact that nowadays provision of various types of urban housing is a vital issue for many cities within Central and Eastern Europe and other parts of the globe. At the same time the Municipality of Gdynia is willing to take active role shaping the future of housing policy as well as to utilise the workshop results in the process of re-planning the key development areas of the city.

The objective of the workshop was to provide workshop participants with hands-on practical experiences. YPPs worked in a studio setting under the guidance of two international experts – namely ISOCARP President Ric Stephens and VP Shipra Narang Suri on a project site chosen jointly by ISOCARP and host organisations. They were accompanied by the ISOCARP Vice President responsible for the YPP program Piotr Lorens.
