Motives for entering the ISOCARP Board

Awais has worked in many countries and is committed to the vision of ISOCARP as the member-governed association of city and regional planners everywhere. Awais will work towards making ISOCARP an inclusive global society that planners around the world can identify with for friendship, brainstorming, resources, and professional advice.

Awais has the experience, skills and knowledge to help the elected Board to achieve its goals. He is the Course Director for Urban Planning at Western Sydney University, the Minister for Planning’s appointee to Local Planning Panels, and the Prime Minister’s appointee to the Western Sydney Transport Infrastructure Panel.

Participation in the ISOCARP activities:

Awais is a practising planner and academic and an active member of ISOCARP (for 25 years). Awais’s contributions include:

  • Delegate to the Congress in Azores, Dalian, Brisbane, Gdynia, Durban and Portland;
  • Conference papers and ISOCARP Review articles;
  • Volunteer in two UPATs;
  • Member of the Scientific Committee;
  • Assisting in the preparation of issues of ISOCARP Review;
  • Rapporteur for the Durban Congress;
  • Mentor and reviewer for this year’s Toronto Congress.
