The Great Green Makeover
The HPF-ISOCARP two-day Urban Thinkers Campus and Action Day will bring together placemakers, city changers, urban policy and planning practitioners from member organizations of the Habitat Professionals Forum to move from ideas to action and determine an actionable framework for implementing greening strategies & achieving measurable results toward global climate mitigation goals. Participating HPF partner organizations include: CAP, CSU, GPN, ICOMOS, and RTPI.

Expert Speakers will set a basic understanding for why grey-to-green transformation is critical; what the potential benefits of this approach are for climate change mitigation; and what the challenges are for such a transformation in urban or urbanizing regions worldwide.

Invited Practitioners & Experts will present example projects that include grey-to-green transformation methodologies for climate change mitigation, including:
upgrading of public space; integration of infrastructure systems; and building stock upgrading. Speakers will dive further into how to improve advocacy for these types of solutions, and what benefits and impacts can be expected in relation to global Sustainable Development Goals.

This Urban Thinkers Campus will look at how cities can use nature-based solutions as a way to respond to climate crisis and achieve action toward climate resilience. The anticipated results will be to establish a simple guidelines on how cities can use green makeovers, or nature-based solutions, as a method for climate action.
11:00-12:00 UTC – Roundtable
Roundtable will discuss Part I Urban Lab results, and will serve for HPF partner organizations to forge agreement on solutions, define action agendas, targets, and joint commitments. Participants will focus on defining a guiding framework for how cities can include and implement green makeovers to align with climate action agendas and goals. Introduction and house rules by Kate Holmquist (ISOCARP).
12:00-12:30 UTC Plenary Session
Hosted by ISOCARP & HPF and featuring Keynote Speaker Pietro Elisei, ISOCARP President, the UTC Plenary will synthesize and reflect on the results of the Urban Labs and Round Table — and present the joint Action Framework.
