On 4 November 2015, the Royal Town Planning Institute and the Global Planners Network in collaboration with ISOCARP launched the Delivering Better Development: The role of the urban and rural planner at the World Town Planning Day Online conference.

In summary this joint RTPI / GPN guide:

  • is an international publication and outlines the sectors, skills and reasons for employing and engaging with town planners.
  • is aimed at politicians, leaders, policy-makers, architects, engineers, environmentalists, civilians and those who are interested in studying planning.
  • includes case studies from around the world so readers can refer to practical, implemented examples.
  • increases awareness of what planners do and how they help to achieve sustainable development and create better places for communities.

´Planning is the single most important tool that governments have at their disposal for managing rapid urban population growth and expansion´ Vanessa Watson and Babatunde Agbola

´There aren’t many opportunities of the scale of World Town Planning Day to highlight the valuable work that urban and rural planners do. I am therefore, delighted that the International Committee was able to make a contribution to World Town Planning Day by launching, in conjunction with the Global Planners Network, a  guide to Delivering Better Development: the Role of the Urban and Rural Planner.´ Peter Geraghty, Chair of the RTPI’s International Committee
