This webinar is brought to you jointly by the Royal Town Planning Institute, the Commonwealth Women in Planning Network (CWIP) and the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).  The event is part of our International Women’s Day celebrations.  Delegates will hear from women in leadership in the planning profession around the world with a focus on the global south.  Speakers will share their journey, including challenges and what has been key in helping them along the way.  This will be an interactive session with opportunity for delegates to ask questions and dialogue with the panellists.

Beatrice Hati Gitundu

Beatrice Hati is a zealous urban development and research specialist who is earnestly committed to accelerating an equitable resilient (urban) development in the Afrocentric, and beyond. On top of her professional training and practice as an urban and regional planner, Beatrice bears active interdisciplinary expertise in disaster risk reduction, multi-level governance, participatory science, research-planning-policy nexus, community-led adaptation, just transitions and resilience.  

For the past decade, Beatrice has contributed to a progressive urban practice in her various positions in the private sector, public sector, civil society, grassroots/community networks, and now in academia. Presently, she works as an urban development and research associate at the International Center for Frugal Innovation (Kenya Hub). She is co-founder of the Urban Amplified (voices elevating urbanism) and a doctoral researcher in development studies at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. With her contributions to the field, she has been awarded the Resilient Urban Communities Research Prize in Cairo, Egypt (2023); Best-practice young alumna in the built environment, University of Nairobi Prize (2021); and the Annual Town and County Excellence Award (TCEA) 2018 for a great contribution towards better towns. 

EnP Haydee Jacklyn M. Quintana Malubay, MPA, DPA abd 

Haydee is President of PlanNet Management Consultancy, a firm she founded in 2013 based on the value of sustainability. She served in government roles at the Office of the President, Senate, and House of Representatives and retired as a Public Affairs Officer at San Miguel Corporation. She now does consultative work for LGUs as she holds a license in environmental and urban planning.

With a Master’s in Public Administration and completed courses in Doctor of Public Administration and PhD in Urban & Regional Planning from the University of the Philippines, she received scholarships for International Studies on Global Change, a grant to attend the American Planning Association National Conference and other courses from the World Bank Institute. She is the author of “Sustainability Files: The Unifying Thread.”

A social entrepreneur advocating for socialized housing, she’s a speaker at planning conferences internationally. As a wife, mother of six, and native of Mauban, she travels extensively for learning, work, and leisure, guided by Divine Providence.

Heather Pinnock

 “Heather Pinnock is a Jamaican PlaceMaker and Champion of Sustainable Tropical Living. She is a development professional with formal training in Architecture, Urban Design and Project Management, as well as over 25 years of experience in construction and real estate. She is a graduate of the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London and the Caribbean School of Architecture, University of Technology, Jamaica. Heather has served as a planning advisor to UN Women Caribbean and co-chair of the Commonwealth Women in Planning network since 2022. She is also an EarthCheck Design Accredited Professional and a licensed real estate salesperson. She leads her own boutique development company, LUCEA Caribbean, which offers advisory services with a focus on sustainable development, climate resilience and conscious living for tropical regions.” 

Larissa Menescal

Larissa Menescal is an Urban Planner and Architect (UFC) with an MSc in Urban Management (TU-Berlin) and an Expert in Public Policies for Smart Cities (USP).  

Nowadays, She is a professor of urban planning, vice president of the Planning Institute of Fortaleza City Hall, and Administrative-Financial Director of the Brazilian Network of Planning Institutes (InRede). 

She has national and international experience in urban and regional planning, safe and sustainable mobility, territorial data, sustainable development agendas, urban pedagogy, citizen participation, urban planning Tools, Experimental Microurbanism, city-to-city cooperation, innovation, and gender. 

She works daily to promote inclusive, diverse, and sustainable Urban development. 

Mansi Sahu

Mansi Sahu is a co-founder at  StudioPOD , an award-winning international multi-disciplinary firm specializing in city planning, urban design, landscape urbanism, and transport planning in India.  

With more than 15 years of urban planning and design experience, Mansi’s focus lies in creating innovative, sustainable, community-driven, and dynamic urban places for people, while working extensively with the local communities, city governments, private developers, public agencies, and stakeholders. 

Mansi is a passionate urbanist who has been advocating through her work the importance of multiple women’s rights and needs in urban spaces, equitable public realms, and creating sustainable balanced environments.

Mansi Sahu has a Master of Science in Architecture & Urban Design from Columbia University, in the city of New York, USA and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Mumbai, India.
