ISOCARP is pleased to announce the official signing of an agreement with the Riyadh Region Municipality (RRM) to host the 61st ISOCARP World Planning Congress (WPC61), set to take place from 1–4 December 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Ayyaf, Mayor of the Riyadh Region, the signing ceremony formalized Riyadh’s role as host city for one of the most prestigious international gatherings in the field of urban and regional planning. ISOCARP was represented by Ms. Elisabeth Belpaire, President; Mr. Frank D’hondt, Secretary General; and Mr. Markus Appenzeller, Treasurer.

The 2025 Congress will convene urban planners, policymakers, academics, and practitioners from around the world under the theme “Cities & Regions in Action: Planning Pathways to Resilience and Quality of Life.” As cities face converging crises marked by volatility, uncertainty, and complexity, the Congress will explore forward-looking strategies that build resilience, enhance sustainability, and improve quality of life for communities worldwide.

Participants will explore cutting-edge themes such as revitalizing underutilized urban spaces, designing for sustainable density, integrating cultural heritage, and harnessing digital and AI technologies for urban transformation. The Congress will also feature enriching side events, including the Young Planning Professionals (YPP) Program, Masterclasses, Awards, training workshops, and field visits to Riyadh’s pioneering projects.

ISOCARP warmly invites urban professionals, public officials, researchers, and development partners to join us in Riyadh for an inspiring exchange of ideas, strategies, and experiences. The Congress provides a vital platform to co-create urban pathways that are resilient, inclusive, and innovative—fit for the challenges and aspirations of the 21st century.

We look forward to welcoming you to Riyadh. Please save the date: 1–4 December 2025.
