We are delighted to announce that Almería Workshop has been a success! After Toronto YPP, it was a real challenge to set up yet a second YPP workshop during October 2023, but we made it, and we are very proud of it.
We had 16 international participants from Asia, Africa, the MENA region and Europe, young and very talented professionals, who were selected from a pool of 126 applicants from all over the world. Also local young planners from Almería supported the workshop on site and provided important guidance.
The host, Empresa Municipal de Almería, was a wonderful partner, represented by Josefina López Galdeano and Carlos Estévez Joya, who designed, conducted and coordinated all the logistics necessary to produce best results.
We also thank our coordinators Vera Marin (Bucharest) and Stefan Netsch (Salzburg/ Vienna) for their excellent guidance. Our communications officer Militza Martínez also joined the team. Her social and multimedia skills, complimented by her native Spanish knowledge, were pivotal for the technical requirements during the hard work days.
Main tasks of the Young Planners
- Active participation in the preliminary presentation of the local Agenda 2030 during a round table, organized by the Spanish Ministry for the Agenda 2030, in the project SUSTAIN-AI-BILITY: ALMERÍA TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE AND SOCIALLY AWARE 20230
- Design and proposal of complimentary actions related to the local Agenda 2030, incorporating innovative contemporary planning solutions. Participants applied their experience to propose options related to pedestrian connectivity, cycling, and active mobility, natural-based solutions, resources-efficient agriculture, local identity, and social bonding.
- Preparation of a high-quality, final report
Next Steps
The team is now diligently working on the final report, and we are in a good track to meet the expectations of the partners on time and within budget, which is very comforting.
The feedback from local experts and invited partners was very gratifying, and we are hoping to continue our collaboration in the near future.
The delivery of the final product is expected for next February.
