Living in the City
Problems and Challenges Associated with the Contemporary Housing Policy
We have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the conference „Living in the City. Problems and Challenges Associated with the Contemporary Housing Policies”, which shall take place in Gdynia, Poland, between June 23rd-24th. This conference is co-organised by the Municipality of Gdynia, the Society of Polish Town Planners and the Committee for Spatial Economy and Regional Planning – Polish Academy of Sciences as well as Gdansk University of Technology in cooperation with the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).
The theme of the conference is associated especially with the problem of housing structures within urban centres – so the specific type of urban housing being subject of rapid development within the transformation and regeneration areas nowadays. These structures are subject of numerous research and analyses, although – due to sectoral approach used within these – it is hard to develop any conclusions of more general nature. These can also become the basis for further studies in this field, as well as for development of the recommendations regarding future directions of national and local housing policies.
Thus, the main goal of the conference is to initiate an interdisciplinary discourse on future models to shape urban housing with focus on central areas and to work out the directions of future research in this field. The conference conclusions shall also allow advancement of the discussion on the implementation of the Lodz Charter “Return to the Centre”, elaborated during the 5th Congress of Polish Urbanism in September 2015. The program of the conference will be enriched by the 1st edition of the Gdynia Urban School, co-organised by AESOP – Association of European Schools of Planning – as well as the exhibition „City Visions” depicting the development visions of selected cities in the 20th century.
Participation in the conference is free of charge, although registration is required. Due to a limited amount of available seats the organisers reserve the right to reconfirm the participation of registered guests.
