by Dr. M. Atiq ur Rahman

The department of City and Regional Planning was established in Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Jail Road Lahore, Pakistan in the year 2012. It was an initiative of ISOCARP ND Pakistan, Dr. M. Atiq ur Rahman to strengthen Town Planning education in Pakistan for female students. The purpose is to bring gender balance in the Profession of City and Regional Planning in Pakistan.

In Pakistan, there were only three universities offering undergraduate program accredited by the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP), which is the legal regulatory body of planning professional in Pakistan. The CRP Department is the fourth department in Pakistan in general and particularly for female students, this is the only one department in Pakistan.
By now, the department has produced more than 100 graduates both in undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The department is accredited by PCATP.

I was selected as first Young Planner from Pakistan in 1997 for ISOCARP Congress held in Ogaki Japan in 1997. I am a regular member of ISOCARP for last twenty years from Pakistan, and I am satisfied with my profession and i have many good hopes to contribute towards promotion and strengthening City Planning profession in Pakistan.
