Judith Innes is professor of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley (USA). Co-author (with David Booher) of: ‘Consensus Building as role playing and bricolage: towards a theory of collaborative planning’, Power and Planning in the network society: consensus building as action strategy’, Metropolitan development as a complex system: a new approach to sustainable development’.

Dr Wendy Sarkissian is passionate about our future: the future of work, housing, of communities and of citizen participation. She is committed to finding spirited ways to nurture and support an engaged citizenry. Her successful career as consultant and academic in Australia and overseas has provided firsthand knowledge of many contexts, from developers boardrooms to low income housing estates. She holds a Masters of Arts in literature, a Master of Town Planning and a PhD in environmental ethics. Building a career as a social planning consultant when there was no such discipline, she has pioneered innovative planning and development approaches in an astonishing variety of contexts. Paulo Pinho is director of CITTA – Research Centre for Territory, Transports and Environment (Planning Faculty of the University of Porto). The Centre focuses on exploring the diversified nature of contemporary urban environments under the integrated and pluridisciplinary umbrella provided by the sustainability concept. He is also director of the Laboratory for Planning and Environment (University of Porto). The Laboratory’s research activities focus on urban development and housing, urban environment and environmental assessment and transport planning. Author of ‘Local Planning and National Environmental Procedures: developer’s mitigated role in disjointed negotiation processes’, ‘A Methodology for an Environmental and Social Impact Analysis of Development Policies for the Ria de Aveiro Region – Portugal’. Co-author of ‘Compendium of Spatial Planning Systems and Policies’, ‘The contribution of Statutory Environmental Assessment to Sustainable Development – The case of the Northern Region of Portugal: Infrastructure Provision and the Negotiating Process’.

Luigi Mazza is a professor of planning at the Politecnico di Milano and chair of the PhD Programme in Urban Projects and Policies. He led many international projects and was consultant to several local and national governments.
